Why? - west michigan childhood photographer

I want to share with you all why I do what I do, why I love what I do, what it is that I strive and work so hard to each of my clients.

For a very long time in my life I wondered what it is that I should do, what was my path that I was supposed to take. I have always loved photography and many other arts, I have always been a person who loves spending time with children. I adore kids, I love to see the world through their eyes, I love their innocence. I believe children are such a gift, a blessing.

We are only given this gift for such a short time, all in stages and all wonderful. From birth to one year, from one year to toddler years, toddler years to beginning school, from those precious moments of early school ages to the the wonderful, expanding, reaching for independence of the "tween" years, thare only given this gift for a short time. Childhood is so fleeting, always changing. From birth to one yen from teen to adults and all the amazing growth in those years. All of it amazes me. All of it is gone in what seems to be a blink of the eye. Each one of those periods of growing up are precious, each one needs to be captured and preserved for generations to come. It's history, it's how we learn where we came from.

So why do I do what I do, why do I love it? I feel I have been give a gift, I do nothing without Jesus guiding me. I do what I do for Him and for YOU, for your family, for your future, for your memories, for your history. That's why my style is a bit different than the traditional portraits, which are beautiful, but my goal, my passion is in capturing "life". I want you to look upon your images, go beyond just seeing them and feel the breath of it, hear the giggles the interactions, taste the kisses that were shared, smell the breeze, remember the closeness you felt... I want all your senses to come alive when you look INTO your images. I want to touch your heart, your soul. I want for others who see your images to also be able to step into that moment with you, I want to evoke their emotions as well. Why do I love it? Simply put, because I am a mom and I know how much I love to remember, to look back, see the growth and be excited for what the future holds.

So when I am sitting on the ground with your children, when I'm talking with them, photographing them, I am all the while thinking like a Mom who wants to slow time down a little, to hang onto our babies. Through ALL the stages of childhood...they are all important.

I think we all tend to do great when our children are small and cute and still so fully dependent on us for everything. I encourage you all to preserve the older child too! The ones who are more independent, more able, more free thinking. They are every bit as precious. Yes, even through the years that you think you want to throttle your child. We are blessed to have children who are healthy enough to drive us crazy. Some day when that times passes, you will be able to laugh about it. I want you to be able to see the beauty of that time as well...because it is beautiful.

Every moment we are given with our children from birth to the time they leave our nests and begin their own history is a gift, a blessing and should be preserved and held close to our hearts.

That's why I do AND love what I do.

Blessings to all

~ Kristen

down on the farm - west michigan family photographer

here is one of my fave family's in the in the known universe!!! They are MY family...not the family you are born into, but the family you choose. I have known this beautiful Mother since she was 7....WOW like a life time ago isn't J!?! She will be celebrating her 30th in September, I my 40th in August, and Mom B (J's mommy) will be celebrating her 50th in August! So look out world, we are celebrating together....new decades to begin. Anyway, I adore this beautiful women, my sister and her gorgeous family.

So we all (my family and I) drove up and spent the weekend up north, and we prayed that the rain would just go away! Well, it kind of did...but the ground was soaked so it limited all the frolicking I wanted to see this family do. However we managed to get some nice family photos and of course some great ones of the handsome Master M.

Meet the R family!

Love you guys!!! thanks so much for letting me capture your love for you!

amber waves of grain- west michigan child photographer

eek!!! so excited!!! I found a great new location, complete with a couple old barns, rolling hills, wild flowers, a field of "amber waves of grain" an orchard with cherries on ones side of the the two track and apples on the other. It will be be gorgeous when the sun is shinning and I have a session at that sweet golden time of day.....*sigh* As a little bonus I found this adorable little hand painted chair that is perfectly sized for my fave peeps in the world!!! Here is just a sampling (small one) of all the splendor that I found. Of course my daughter is my ever ready model. She had so much fun picking wild flowers!

the only bad thing....when my Lizzie and I got there, there were ummm....a few (5-7) big, fat, HUGE and butt ugly buzzards hanging around on the barn. Seriously they were about the size of my daughter...didn't really want them looking at her like "hmm....lunch!" so we didn't stick around the barn to long and moseyed on up the beautiful hills!

What do you think? Would you like to have your session here? I always love feedback...so leave me a comment!

Blessings to you all : )
