For a very long time in my life I wondered what it is that I should do, what was my path that I was supposed to take. I have always loved photography and many other arts, I have always been a person who loves spending time with children. I adore kids, I love to see the world through their eyes, I love their innocence. I believe children are such a gift, a blessing.
We are only given this gift for such a short time, all in stages and all wonderful. From birth to one year, from one year to toddler years, toddler years to beginning school, from those precious moments of early school ages to the the wonderful, expanding, reaching for independence of the "tween" years, thare only given this gift for a short time. Childhood is so fleeting, always changing. From birth to one yen from teen to adults and all the amazing growth in those years. All of it amazes me. All of it is gone in what seems to be a blink of the eye. Each one of those periods of growing up are precious, each one needs to be captured and preserved for generations to come. It's history, it's how we learn where we came from.
So why do I do what I do, why do I love it? I feel I have been give a gift, I do nothing without Jesus guiding me. I do what I do for Him and for YOU, for your family, for your future, for your memories, for your history. That's why my style is a bit different than the traditional portraits, which are beautiful, but my goal, my passion is in capturing "life". I want you to look upon your images, go beyond just seeing them and feel the breath of it, hear the giggles the interactions, taste the kisses that were shared, smell the breeze, remember the closeness you felt... I want all your senses to come alive when you look INTO your images. I want to touch your heart, your soul. I want for others who see your images to also be able to step into that moment with you, I want to evoke their emotions as well. Why do I love it? Simply put, because I am a mom and I know how much I love to remember, to look back, see the growth and be excited for what the future holds.
So when I am sitting on the ground with your children, when I'm talking with them, photographing them, I am all the while thinking like a Mom who wants to slow time down a little, to hang onto our babies. Through ALL the stages of childhood...they are all important.
I think we all tend to do great when our children are small and cute and still so fully dependent on us for everything. I encourage you all to preserve the older child too! The ones who are more independent, more able, more free thinking. They are every bit as precious. Yes, even through the years that you think you want to throttle your child. We are blessed to have children who are healthy enough to drive us crazy. Some day when that times passes, you will be able to laugh about it. I want you to be able to see the beauty of that time as well...because it is beautiful.
Every moment we are given with our children from birth to the time they leave our nests and begin their own history is a gift, a blessing and should be preserved and held close to our hearts.
That's why I do AND love what I do.
Blessings to all
~ Kristen
